Dr. Syed Mustaq Ahmed

Dr. Syed Mustaq Ahmed serves as Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology at MES Medical College, Kerala. With over 19 years of academic, Diagnostic and clinical experience, he is a distinguished Educator, Researcher, and Institutional leader committed to strengthening medical education and Laboratory excellence. His research interests include Bacteriology and Molecular Microbiology, with 19 original research publications in reputed journals. Beyond his research work, Dr. Mustaq has played a pivotal role in institutional quality assurance, institutional Research, Medical education Unit, Curriculum development, faculty Development programmes. His commitment to promote research is evident with post in the institution as Chairman of the Institutional Scientific Committee, Member of the Institutional Research Committee, Plagiarism checking officer & Post graduate thesis guide etc…
Dr. Mushtaq’s professional contributions extend to antimicrobial stewardship, Bioethics, HIC and laboratory quality management (ISO 15189:2022). He has been recognized as a QAS Assessor and Board of Studies Member for Paramedical Studies at the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). A passionate medical educator, he has completed multiple Medical Council of India (now NMC)–recognized training programmes, including Basic and Advanced Courses in Medical Education Technologies, Curriculum Implementation Programme (CISP), and Bioethics in Medical Education. As a long-serving Medical Education Unit (MEU) faculty member and Curriculum Committee member, he has actively trained faculty in integrated teaching, basic workshops, and educational innovations.
As a commitment for faculty development he has completed some important online courses offered by accreditation agencies like quality council of India, WHO etc. some of the courses he has completed   are   “Antimicrobial stewardship: A competency -based approach” “Basic course in Biomedical research Programme on Implementation of NABH Standards for Hospitals” , “Quality Assurance through NAAC Accreditation process” , “Quality management system and internal audit in medical laboratories ISO 15189 2022”  “Ethics Review of Health research”. “Faculty & Judge in CME”
Dr. Mustaq also serves in several key institutional roles “In- charge Dean” when required, “Quality Manager (NABL)”, “Nodal Officer for COVID-19 Testing”, “Nodal officer Anti-Ragging Committee”, “Nodal Officer NAP-AMR”, “Member of Drug Safety committee”, “Convenor Hospital Infection Control Committee”, “Convenor for Disinfectant use committee”, “Convenor Antimicrobial Steward Committee” “NABH Accreditation Committees”. “MBBS, BDS, BSc MLT MD Examiner”, “Post graduate thesis Guide”, “Chief Superintendent for Medical and Paramedical University Exams as both Internal and External examiner”, “Course Director for Paramedical Courses” & “Chairman for Practical & Valuation camps.” His multidisciplinary involvement reflects his dedication to advancing academic quality, ethical research, and safe, evidence-based healthcare practices.
